Palmieri Group has achieved a significant milestone, becoming a reliable ally in the work carried out by the Acciona and Mostostal Warszawa consortium, for the construction of a tunnel in Poland on the S19 Rzeszow Południe -Babica with its Air Mover 2500.
What is Air Mover?
The Air Mover, previously designed by Palmieri for the construction of the Sparvo tunnel, is a system composed of 10 steel structures, each equipped with 8 cushions. The required air flow is 240 cm/min at a pressure of 7 bar. Each individual AIRMOVER cushion has a lifting range from 36,300 kg to 43,500 kg (maximum allowable load).
Air Mover and more: all the phases of the S19 project
In addition to the Air Mover, Palmieri supplied cutters and tools for the Karpatka TBM
The project was commissioned in 2023, and delivery of the Air Mover was initially scheduled for spring 2024, but excavation was significantly delayed due to gas detection, resulting in a postponement. The shipment from Palmieri to the construction site began on December 3rd and concluded on December 17th. Our technicians were always present to supervise the operation and provide advice on the handling areas, as well as a “pilot” for the Air Mover.
Adverse weather conditions, with temperatures reaching 18 degrees Celsius, further complicated the situation. However, this did not prevent the successful completion of the operation, with the first machine shield being loaded onto the Air Mover on January 22nd and the rotation of all backup carriages lasting approximately three weeks.
